Courses for Local delivery

As well as running courses in a central location, BELIEF is happy to bring
courses to you. We have three courses we can do this with at present:

1. Christian Decision Making.

There are so many decisions we need to make day by day. Some we probably make
without thinking about them. Some we do give more thought to. As Christians, one
thing we will want to do is to ask what God requires of us as we make decisions. This
course introduces an aid to Christian decision-making which has been used by many
Christians all over the world in recent years. It helps us to analyse the situation we are
facing, to set out options, to look at the Bible and other parts of Christian tradition, to
dig deep into them for guidance about what God requires and encourages us to act on
the basis of what we have learned.
This course can be done over four or five evenings, or on a Saturday or Sunday.
We try to be as flexible as possible in adapting to local circumstances.
Fees are negotiable, but £50.00 for an evening and £200.00 for a Saturday is a
guide-price. For more details and to discuss how we can deliver this in your church,
house-group, fellowship of churches etc, please contact our Director, Stephen Heap,
via the contacts page.

2. Christian Responses to Islam.

We now live in a multi-faith, multi-cultural society, and Islam is part of that. What is
a Christian response to Islam and to Muslims? In this course, we visit a Mosque (usually
in Queen’s Park in Bedford, but there are other possibilities) and learn something about
Islam from Muslims. We spend time reflecting on what we have seen and heard, and then
turn to the Bible and to passages which help us reflect on what God calls us to be and do
as we work, study and live alongside Islam and Muslims. The course is led by either
Stephen Heap, Director of BELIEF, or by Rev’d Jay MacLeod, Parish Priest in Queen’s
Park, Bedford, and Interfaith Adviser to the Bishop and Diocese of St. Albans. The
emphasis is on Christian responses and we offer it as such rather than making claims to
be experts on Islam, though both of us do have wide experience of working with Muslim
people and have read and thought about that faith and about what it means to be Christian
alongside Muslims.
This course can be run in All Saints Parish Room in Queen’s Park, as well
as in your local situation. It can be done over a number of evenings, or on Saturdays. Fees
are flexible, but £50.00 for an evening, and £200.00 for a Saturday are guide-prices. For
more details and to discuss how we can deliver this course in your church, house group,
fellowship of churches etc, please contact our Director, Stephen Heap, via the contact page.

3. Mission in Contemporary Culture.

Under this general heading we can cover a number of areas, including looking at the
place of the church in contemporary society, the importance of spirituality, the world
views and spirituality of the young, what it means to be ‘secular’, and what concepts
like ‘post-modern’ and ‘post-Christian’ mean, especially what they might mean for
effective mission and evangelism. The way into this one is to have a conversation
with BELIEF’s Director, Stephen Heap, about your own context. Stephen will then
suggest some ways forward, with costings. You can contact Stephen via the Contact page.
