BELIEF

Welcome to BELIEF: Bedford Ecumenical Lay Institute for Education and Faith.

- and thank you for visiting us.

We hope you find what we have to offer in the world of Christian education exciting and attractive and that you will want to join us as we seek to help people learn more about Christianity and how to live it in today’s world. Our work is particularly with Christians, but any interested people are welcome to join us.

Here’s a bit about us ….

BELIEF was set up in 2006 by a group of Christians in and around Bedford who
wanted to create opportunities for high quality, accessible Christian education in this
area. Since then we have had over 300 students on a variety of courses and also been
involved in consultancy work with local churches. Past courses include:

  • Getting to Grips with Luke
  • The Old Testament
  • Pastoral Care
  • PowerPoint for Preachers
  • Mission in a Postmodern World
  • Living in a Multi-Faith world

No formal educational qualifications are needed to come on our courses. The only
qualifications needed are a willingness and a desire to learn.

You can come for fun, to help train for a ministry in the church, to ask those
awkward questions about faith and life, all in an open, enquiring environment. Or we can
come to you ….as well as running courses open to all, BELIEF offers consultancy work
on a variety of issues, and has developed courses (in particular on Christian Decision
Making, Christian Responses to Islam and Mission in the Present Cultural Context) which can be delivered in and for local
churches, parishes, or groups of churches. Please click on the 'Local courses' button for more details

We work under the auspices of the Bedfordshire Ecumenical Committee and in
close collaboration with local churches of many denominations.
